Out first serious tasting of the new wines with a proper sit-down tasting setup and comprehensive notes on the new wines usually takes place in late November/early December. It's an exciting event and we have put down strict rules for it.

We are ruthlessly honest with our feedback on each other's wines. Our opinions sometimes differ quite strongly from each other. We each have our preferences in terms of wine style and varietal characteristics and there are usually only a handful of wines all four of us love.

This is where working on our blend for Fritz & Frieda Grüner Veltliner starts.

Our two wineries produce quite different wine styles. Robert's and Christine's Veltliners are very classic in terms of varietal aromas, fruit driven and spicy in the finish. They are elegant and balanced and archetypical Grüners from Weinviertel. Markus' and Kerstin's wines are more opulent with riper fruit aromas and extra concentration.

Blending these two wine styles adds an extra dimension to the classical Weinviertel DAC, it results in additional layers of aromatic complexity and character.

Working on the GV blend feels a bit like working on a piece of art. I like to think of it as working on a painting where the artist has to get the colors and tones, light and shadow and the overall mood right. The outcome is very personal and reflects who we are and what we do. It's our own little masterpiece :-)
