Picture-Perfect POYSDORF

It's June...again. One full year of Fritz & Frieda and a new vintage is already taking shape in the vineyards. It's stunningly, breathtakenly beautiful out there right now. June is a great time to visit Poysdorf and I sometimes imagine what it would be like to see all the beauty around me through the eyes of a first-time visitor. What would I do if I came to Poysdorf for the very first time?

I think I would check into the „Haus mit Charme“ which is owned by our friend Astrid and the cutest guesthouse one can imagine. The Eisenhuthaus would be my next stop where I would have a cup of coffee and their famous chocolate and cherry tart in the small patio, maybe chat to the waitress to make plans for the evening, see which winegrower will open his cellar door. Later, I would put on my hiking shoes and walk up the Radyweg, the most beautiful wine cellar alley with tiny white press houses lined up along the old cobble stone road. The Radyweg would lead me all the way up to the Weinhotel Neustifter where a cosy hammock and a chilled glass of Grüner Veltliner in the arbor would persuade me to take a small break. It would probably be difficult to leave my perfect place in the shade, I am sure, and I might even stay for lunch, but there's so much more to explore so I would eventually move on.

My next stop would be the Vino Versum, Poysdorf's wine museum with plenty of wine history and a brand new tasting room.

Maybe I would rent a bike at Radwerk afterwards and cycle up Rösselberg, passing the old wine cellars there, and enjoy the peaceful view over the vineyards and the soft sounds of the mild summer winds when I have reached the top. It would probably be getting quite hot by then so I would follow the small Poybach river down to the Badeteich, Poysdorf's swimming lake, where I would stretch out on the new wooden deck and enjoy the sun (and maybe even take a swim to cool down).

It would probably be time for dinner then so I would make my way to the Hubertushof for the world's best Schnitzel.

Why not drop into the Wino winebar afterwards and have a few glasses of wine with Erich, he would tell me everything about Poysdorf and its wines...

OK, time to stop dreaming and get back to work unfortunately...

If you haven’t figured out where to go for your next summer holiday, why not give my perfect day in Poysdorf a try?
